Jewelry Box

I made this for a friend.  He asked for a humidor to store all those cigars he never smokes. I suspect someday it will be a jewellery box but, having met his wife, that's just an educated guess.

The box is made out of Amara Ebony. An extremely rare and expensive timber from Indonesia. I had the honour of working with what is, hands down, the most precise, dense wood I've ever encountered. Corners on this piece were sharp as steel with no tear-out.

The interior is made of Spanish cedar, which acts as a sponge, soaking up water and allowing the owner to control the humidity inside the box.

The tray is made of walnut with box joints, dowel and a waterfall mitre as its methods of joinery. There are at least 7 joinery methods incorporated into this piece in total.
