Floating Shelves

Custom floating shelves look so simple: cut a board and stick it on a wall.  Sadly, they are anything but.  The wood itself must be precisely milled.  Placement and design relationship must be considered.  A method of hanging that prevents deflection must be devised and the edges must be custom fit to any deviations in the walls they abut.

Properly done they have the potential to transform a room. This particular example is cherry, stained with a pure finish.
